DFA Awards
The award series run by the Hong Kong Design Centre — Hong Kong's most internationally visible design endorsement. The official site currently lists seven awards: the DFA Design for Asia Awards (DFAA, judging work and projects, and the one companies mostly enter), the DFA Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award (YDTA), DFA World's Outstanding Chinese Designer, DFA Design Leadership Award, DFA Lifetime Achievement Award, DFA Designer of the Year and DFA Asian Design Vanguard — beyond DFAA and YDTA, most are personal or honorary awards rather than open calls. Submissions for the 2026 DFAA were extended to close on 15 July. For consumer products, spaces, digital products and brand design, this line recognises the design itself in a way the industry awards don't.
You designed the product, space, digital experience or brand identity yourself, and it has landed in an Asian market — DFA judges design impact on the market, not renders.
The design was bought in and you only manufacture; or the work hasn't shipped. If you want the company's operating standard recognised rather than the design, look at the Hong Kong Awards for Industries.

What each of the seven judges
Seven awards sit under the series, but only the first two are genuinely enterable by companies and teams — DFAA judges the work, YDTA judges an individual young designer. The other five are personal or honorary awards, mostly decided by nomination or jury selection rather than open call. Get that line straight before worrying about deadlines.
Deadlines shift — only the official site counts
The 2026 DFAA submission period was extended once, to 15 July. Extensions like that usually surface only on the official site and in email notices, while media coverage stays on the old date. The seven awards schedule independently — don't apply the flagship's dates to the personal awards.
- 1
Decide whether you're entering work or a person
Companies and teams go DFAA; individual designers go YDTA or the personal awards.
Pitfall: Filing a company project into a personal award — wrong category from the start.
- 2
Check this edition's deadline on the official site (it may have moved)
The DFAA online submission portal and deadline are governed by the official site.
Pitfall: Working to a date from a news article that has since changed.
- 3
Build the submission around impact, not looks
DFAA judges the impact a design has had in Asian markets; bring evidence that it landed.
Pitfall: Submitting renders and visuals with nothing showing it reached the market.
- 01The 2026 DFAA has closed → start assembling this year's shipped work and market evidence for next year's first-half submission.
- 02A young Hong Kong designer → look at the YDTA separately; its schedule differs from the flagship's.
- 03In consumer goods → DFAA and the Consumer Product Design category of the Hong Kong Awards for Industries can run in the same year; they judge from different angles.
The number of awards follows what dfaawards.com's own navigation lists (verified as seven on 2026-08-08). This page previously said four and has been corrected — if the official site later adds or drops awards, it governs. Entry fees, detailed eligibility and category lists are not stated on the official pages verified here.
